IMAP high MEmory usage

Postby dmburgess » Tue Feb 03, 2009 9:08 pm

I have a small server, enterprise edtiton, but IMAP will eat 400+ meg of RAM without issues. How do I prevent this!

The memory could be high with some installations as the indexing used in IMAP for mailboxes is stored in memory, this is done for performance. Also as some clients can have multiple logins there can be multiple storage items of folders along with this add a large folder of messages and all of a sudden you have a larger memory usage.

That being said we are always looking at reducing memory usage and in the next minor release you may find some changes that help.

Be sure that you don't have indexing service turned on. This could increase processor/disk usage. One thing I did for the memory (although I've not had issues) is set the page file 2.5 times the size of RAM on the server.
