how to implement a "negative" message filter?

Postby nelami48 » Thu Feb 25, 2016 1:58 pm

Hi, a newbie here so please be kind to me. The site I'm responsible for has been move by the service provider onto new servers and are now have MailEnable as the mailer service. We have a number of email addresses one (sales@xxxxxxxxx) is intended to handle only emails from PayPal. On the old system I could implement a filter to reject all emails NOT from PayPal i.e. send all emails not from PayPal to the Junk or Delete folder. I don't seem to have the same facility with MailEnable. It may just be a case of me misunderstanding the rule setup procedure. Any advice welcome

Hi,

You would need to create a script filter to do this. An example is below:

Code: Select all

If CriteriaMet([ME_TO],"*sales@xxxxx*") AND _
   not CriteriaMet([ME_FROM],"*@paypal.com*") THEN
FilterResult=1
End If

Add the action to "Mark as Spam" which will mark the message as spam and move it the users "Junk E-Mail" folder.

Hi Ian

Thanks for the advice. As I said I'm most definitely a newbie and need to know where this script is to written as I cannot see an obvious location- I've looked under the "Advanced" section of the email account where there are "spam" & "message" filters.

Is there an online "idiots" guide I can read?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

In the administration console navigate to Messaging Manager > Filters. Right click on "filters" and select new > Filter. Name the filter. Once created you will see it listed in the right hand pane window. Double click the filter and then click "Edit Script" by selecting the option to "use a criteria script".

Hi Ian

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I don't seem to have access to that area - Messaging Manager doesn't appear. Probably the hosting provider has disabled access - I'll try raising a support ticket with them to provide me with the appropriate access permission.

I'll take a look at the links shortly - thank you for the URLS.

Nello
