Unable to bind to IP Address

I have a fresh Windows Server 2012 which I use for my web applications (IIS) and SVN (VisualSVN), it also runs an MSSQL 2014 Express server. Other than that I have not really made any specific config changes to the server.

Today I installed MailEnable and tried to get it to run, but it won't, and I cannot figure out why...

I can connect locally using "telnet localhost 587" as well as remotely using "telnet 37.97.246.42 587", I can EHLO and it will register those in the SMTP activity log.

Both the diagnostics as well as the SMTP debug log show that it cannot connect inbound (see details below).

netstat is not showing anything on port 587 at all and as said in the start I do not think I have anything else running?

What am I missing here? Where do I start? Without e-mail for 6 hours now...

Disclaimer: I am not a system administrator, just trying to see if I can run a mailserver myself or if I need to use a paid service. So far it's not looking good ;)

Hi,

I tried connecting to 37.97.246.42 587 via telnet from my end and it does not respond and times out. If I telnet to 37.97.246.42 25 another SMTP server responds. If I telnet to 37.97.246.42 110 MailEnable POP service responds. Therefore the problem here is that:

1. You have another SMTP service listening on port 25. I.e: SMTP response:

Code: Select all

220 37-97-246-42.colo.transip.net


2. Port 587 is not being forwarded in your router or a firewall is blocking inbound connections over port 587. Check Windows firewall rules as well.

Still not sure who is blocking 587, I just use 25 now and all works fine.
I have changed my SMTP welcome message to get a green check on the reverse DNS name tests...

ps. I know this is the free part of MailEnable, but waiting a couple of days before a post even gets approved makes it quite useless. No big deal, just not useful for posting your panic problems. I'll just stick to "googling" next time.
